Birdwatching

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

One of my favourite ways to start the day, when given half a chance, is by slowing down and just being. At the weekend, I like to feed the birds and then grab a cup of tea or coffee, perch myself on the dining room table, and gaze out of the patio doors at the activity in the garden.

Sometimes actvity isn’t quite the right word:

Sometimes, the visitors to the feeders don’t have feathers:

Sometimes they move around so much that I only manage to grab one decent photo of them:

And sometimes they go on safari away from the feeders and tackle the dandelions for us:

The goldfinch was around this morning - it spent quite some time happily dismantling a few dandelions. I might have to start taking the camera with me on my morning table-perching - having pet birds means I’ve adapted my movements to be smooth and flowing rather than quick and jerky so I’m quite good at not startling them, but things like robins and tits zip around so quickly that they’ve gone by the time I’ve retrieved the camera.
